▼ How does it work?
The SkinPen treatment works in three simple steps, designed to activate the skin’s natural healing process. Following each session, the skin begins to heal itself, looking more renewed and rejuvenated over time:
Step 1 – INFLAMMATION: Skinpen’s microneedles penetrate the skins surface , tiggering a natural immune response to disinfect, remove debris, increase blood flow and activate the creation of new tissue.
Step 2 PROLIFERATION – The tiny holes created by SkinPen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. A new network of blood vessels develop.
Step 3- REMODELING – New dermal tissues form, rich in collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin quality, reducing scarring and wrinkles, leaving skin more youthful and radiant.

▼ Will it hurt and how long does it take?
Numbing cream is applied for around 20 minutes before the procedure, but the appointment is 45 minutes long.
▼ Are there any side effects or risks?
Although SkinPen treatments are generally considered safe, as with all procedures there is always a risk. The common side effects are minor and temporary. Immediately after treatment, you may experience redness, swelling and a sensation similar to sunburn. These effects are normal and will subside within a few days. Your skin may also feel tight and dry, and there may be some peeling as the skin begins to heal and rejuvenate. Some patients may experience some mild bleeding during the procedure which is normal. Less commonly, there is a risk of bruising, infection and pigment changes. It is important to follow your aftercare instructions fully.
▼ How many sessions?
Ideally 3-6 sessions is recommended spaced 4-6 weeks apart. You can see skin improvements straight away, however more noticeable results develop over several weeks as collagen production increases. Maintenance sessions are usually recommended at 6-12 weeks to uphold the skins improved condition and to continue stimulating collagen production.
▼ Can I return to work after?
Generally most patients will experience redness and heat to the area post treatment. The heat usually subsides within 1-2 hours, however the redness can last for 12-48 hours, in which time no make up can be worn.
▼ How do I prepare for the appointment?
Avoid any laser treatments, chemical peels or facial waxing for 2 weeks before and after your treatment.
Avoid direct sunlight, saunas and sunbeds for 2 weeks before and after treatment.
Stop using any retinols 3 days before treatment.
Please come to your appointment make up free or with minimal make up.
▼ Is there any aftercare advice?
Yes! Try to avoid ibuprofen and aspirin for the first 24 hours as this can increase bruising. Paracetamol is fine. Please avoid alcohol and exercise for at least 24 hours as it can lead to flushing of the skin, which can, in turn, reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Avoid rubbing the areas of the face that have been injected for 24 hours - this includes having facials or facial massage. Avoid applying makeup directly to the injection sites for 24 hours. You may apply makeup to the other areas of your face.
