▼ What kind of results should I expect?
Forehead wrinkles are generally dramatically reduced, and in some cases completely eradicated. Sometimes it can take more than one session to completely eradicate forehead wrinkles – especially if they have settled into the skin and are very deep. Most patients that come to see Dr Shareka like a natural look- so their wrinkles have gone but they are not ‘frozen’ and left expressionless. However, we can tailor the dose to your desired result. Patients generally comment that nobody has noticed, but their skin is glowing and they look well. We always recommend a good skincare regime in combination with any injectables, for best results.
▼ Will it hurt and how long does it take?
The procedure is relatively pain-free, with potential mild discomfort due to the injection of the small needle. At your first appointment, we will spend a bit more time assessing your face and treatment planning.
▼ Is it safe?
The risks are extremely minimal. Botulinum toxin has been in medical use for over four decades. It is a prescription only medicine, that should only be prescribed by an appropriately trained healthcare professional who has had the appropriate training. Before any procedure, Dr Shareka will have a thorough face to face initial consultation and assessment with all clients. Dr Shareka will ask for an in-depth medical history and your reasons for wanting to go ahead with treatment before Dr Shareka decides if you are suitable for treatment or not.
▼ Are there any side effects?
There is always a risk of bruising with any injectables, which will subside within a few days. Some patients also report a mild headache post treatment which also quickly subsides. There is always a risk of some asymmetry with anti wrinkle injections in the forehead – but this can be corrected at your 2-3 week review treatment at no extra cost.
▼ How many sessions?
With all anti wrinkle appointments – patients are offered a 2-3 week free of charge review appointment, where we can make any ‘tweakments’ and perfect the result.
▼ Can I return to work after?
You will be able to return to your normal daily activities after treatment. Immediately after treatment, you can expect a small red swelling at the injection site which will reduce within 30 minutes. You may experience some bruising or redness following treatment which will subside within a few days.
▼ How long will my anti-wrinkle results last?
Usually between 3-4 months, but everybody is different. After this, you may wish to return for further treatment. It is completely normal to require 3 monthly treatments for the first 1-2 years. After this, the treatment can last longer and patients usually leave a little longer between treatments. When the anti wrinkle treatment wears off, your wrinkles will slowly go back to normal but usually a lot softer than what they were before treatment. Please note, it is completely normal to start to see some movement coming back 6-8 weeks post treatment – full movement usually takes 3-4 months.
▼ Can it be reversed?
The results of anti wrinkle injections cannot be reversed but it is important to remember no anti wrinkle results are permanent. It is always better to take a lighter approach at your first appointment as more can be added at your 2-3 week review appointment.
▼ Is this treatment suitable for everybody?
You are unsuitable for treatment if:
- You have any infection present at or near the injection sites
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a neuromuscular disease
▼ How do I prepare for the appointment?
Please do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid any laser treatments, chemical peels or microneedling for 2 weeks before and after your treatment. Please try to eat and drink something before your appointment to avoid feeling light headed during the procedure. Please come to your appointment make up free or with minimal make up.
▼ Is there any aftercare advice?
Yes! Please avoid alcohol and exercise for at least 24 hours as it can lead to flushing of the skin, which can, in turn, reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Avoid rubbing the areas of the face that have been injected for 24 hours - this includes having facials or facial massage. Avoid applying makeup directly to the injection sites for 24 hours. You may apply makeup to the other areas of your face.
