Treatment FAQs:
▼ What kind of results should I expect?
Benefits may include improved skin texture, diminished wrinkles, and increased skin elasticity, contributing to an overall rejuvenated appearance. Following injection, the polynucleotide will slowly absorb into your skin and signal the skin to make the desired changes. The fibroblasts will be stimulated to produce to promote collagen production and hydration. Furthermore, antioxidants from this treatment will remove the free radicals which damage cells. This treatment is also great for improving scars and pigmentation. This treatment is a great option for those who are not suitable for tear trough filler.
▼ How do they work?
Our own body’s DNA consists of strands of proteins called polynucleotides. The polynucleotides stimulate fibroblasts which are responsible for the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin production diminishes with age, causing fine lines and skin sagging. By injecting polynucleotides back into the skin, we get the fibroblasts working harder, causing more collagen and elastin to be produced.
▼ What is injected?
Polynucleotides consist of exceptionally pure DNA derived from salmon or trout sperm. They are diluted into water and injected into the skin.
▼ Can anyone have this treatment?
Yes, although not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding ladies, and vegetarians or vegans.
▼ Will it hurt and how long does it take?
Numbing cream is used. Although the needles used are tiny, a small sting can be felt as the product is injected. The actual injections are very quick – just a few minutes.
▼ Are there any side effects or risks?
As with any injectable treatments, there is a risk of bruising and swelling, which subsides within a few days-weeks. However, there is no risk of puffiness or a vascular occlusion.
▼ How many sessions?
Ideally 3-4 sessions are required, 3-4 weeks apart. Following this, 1 maintenance session is required after 6 months.
▼ Can I return to work after?
You will be able to return to your normal daily activities after treatment, but you must follow the aftercare. There may be some little bumps straight after the treatment which can take 1-2 days to disappear.
▼ How do I prepare for the appointment?
Arnica tablets are great to help with bruising – you can take these for a few days before treatment. Antihistamines can help with swelling. Please do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before or after your appointment. Avoid any laser treatments, chemical peels or microneedling for 2 weeks before and after your treatment. Please try to eat and drink something before your appointment to avoid feeling light headed during the procedure. Please come to your appointment make up free or with minimal make up.
▼ Is there any aftercare advice?
Yes! Try to avoid ibuprofen and aspirin for the first 24 hours as this can increase bruising. Paracetamol is fine. Please avoid alcohol and exercise for at least 24 hours as it can lead to flushing of the skin, which can, in turn, reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Avoid rubbing the areas of the face that have been injected for 24 hours - this includes having facials or facial massage. Avoid applying makeup directly to the injection sites for 24 hours. You may apply makeup to the other areas of your face.
